On 18 May, trainee computer science teachers gained practical insights into modern STEM education, robotics and 3D printing
Together with Nicki Klett, head of the trainee teacher programme, HTWK Leipzig welcomed five computer science trainees from Leipzig and the surrounding area to a specialist day on modern STEM education, robotics and digital manufacturing.
The event focussed on the extracurricular learning opportunities offered by RoboCreators for school classes and the entire university. Practical workshops and hands-on activities in the fields of 3D printing, robotics, computer science and digital technologies were presented. The programme was supplemented by best-practice examples from previous projects and teaching formats.
Participants were given insights into how modern technologies can be integrated into lessons in a low-threshold and practice-orientated way. Hands-on learning with additive manufacturing, robotic systems and microcontrollers was met with particular interest.
The event was rated a complete success by all participants. For RoboCreators and HTWK Leipzig, specialist theme days of this kind are an important building block in bringing innovative educational programmes to schools in Leipzig and the region. Teachers and prospective teachers act as important multipliers for modern STEM education.
In addition, the programmes make an important contribution to the further training of teachers and to the sustainable strengthening of STEM education in the region. The aim is to get pupils interested in computer science, technology and digital topics of the future at an early age and thus support the long-term securing of skilled labour in Saxony.
The RoboCreators work with schools and regional partners to develop practical educational programmes for children and young people. The project combines robotics, computer science and digital manufacturing with the modern promotion of young talent and supports schools in the implementation of innovative learning formats.
