Coordinate measurement using the KEYENCE IM-8020 digital measuring projector

The IM-8020 digital measuring projector from KEYENCE can be used to measure components or assemblies with maximum dimensions of 200 mm × 200 mm. For each object to be measured, measurement settings must be created that specify the target and actual values for the dimensions to be checked. This can be done using the measuring instrument itself or an external PC. The objects to be measured are placed on the stage so that their outer edges can be used for dimensioning via transmitted light. Internal dimensions of the object can be illuminated using the programmable incident light, allowing these dimensions to be checked as well. An additional light probe also allows features at a defined height to be measured. For example, diameters can be probed radially from the outside at several points to check the diameter or geometry, such as concentricity.
Optionally, the measuring projector is also equipped with a rotary axis featuring a 2-jaw or 3-jaw chuck. Small rotationally symmetrical parts or small milled components can be clamped in place and rotated through 360°. This makes it possible, for example, to measure the angle between different radial through-holes in a rotationally symmetrical part.
The inspection time is very short and the results can be quickly documented using a reporting tool.
