
25 June 2026 | Field trip to Mareli-Systems in Delitzsch
Amidst high summer temperatures, a field trip to Mareli-Systems in Delitzsch took place on 25 June 2026. Mareli-Systems, headquartered in Bulgaria, is a manufacturer of, amongst other things, wood gasification boilers, pellet and wood chip boilers, and heat pumps. EGU students from several of Prof. Guzek’s modules had the opportunity to actively learn about another component of sustainable energy generation aimed at achieving the heating transition. Our thanks go to the Managing Director of Mareli Systems, Mr Geier, for making this field trip possible.
22 June – 23 June 2026 | Bosch Buderus, Lollar
From 22 to 23 June 2026, students on Prof. Guzek’s modules in Heating Technology, Environmentally Friendly Building Services and Specialised Areas of Technical Building Services had the opportunity to visit the Bosch Buderus plant in Lollar. The programme at the Buderus Academy covered the topic of heat pumps in existing buildings as well as a hands-on session on hydraulics. The evening’s programme, following a hearty dinner, featured a night watchman’s tour of Marburg. The following day, the students were able to tour the Heating Museum and the factory. 27 January 2026 | University Day at PGMM in Leipzig
For the third time, EGU students from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and Prof. Guzek’s modules were given the opportunity to get a taste of life at the planning group M+M ‘Planerluft’. Mr Stüber, Office Manager at PGMM Leipzig, welcomed the attendees with a presentation on the firm’s portfolio of planning services and current projects. Following a tour of the offices, the students were divided into groups so that they could focus specifically on different disciplines, such as heating engineering, drinking water hygiene, ventilation and air conditioning, building automation and sprinkler systems, amongst others.
It was a successful university open day for the students, giving them the opportunity to learn about planning practice and to discuss collaboration and career opportunities at PGMM.
19–20 January 2026 | Excursion to the VIEGA Seminar Centre in Großheringen
We are once again very grateful to be guests at VIEGA in Großheringen in 2026.
As part of the Drinking Water Hygiene/Water Technology and Practical Building Services Engineering modules, EGU students had the opportunity to learn about the digital planning and design of drinking water components, the legal framework, relevant applications and press-fitted samples they had produced themselves, as well as taking part in a factory tour. A big thank you goes to VIEGA for the excellent organisation.
1 December 2025 | Field trip to KSB Halle/Saale – Pump update
For the third time, Bachelor’s and Master’s students on the EGB and EGM degree programmes, studying the modules in Sanitary Engineering and Software Applications, were able to visit KSB in Halle with Prof. Guzek. As well as updates on the design programmes and smart solutions in pump technology, the itinerary once again included a tour of the factory.

19 October – 22 October 2025 | Field trip on drinking water hygiene
From 19 to 22 October 2025, students on Prof. Gero Guzek’s EGB and EGM degree programmes focused on drinking water hygiene. As part of a multi-day field trip, beginning with a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart and followed by intensive training on water treatment techniques at Judo in Winnenden, the students were able to learn about drinking water hygiene and water technology. The excursion concluded at the training centre in Pfullendorf, where the students gained insights into the acoustics laboratory, the water tower and connection technologies, amongst other things.

26 May 2025 | Site visit – New RB headquarters building in Leipzig
On 26 May 2025, students on Prof. Guzek’s ‘Environmentally Friendly Building Services’ and ‘Specialist Areas’ modules were able to visit the construction site of the new RB office building in Leipzig Lindenau. Prof. Guzek had already visited the site with students a year ago. The building shell is now complete and all technical systems are ready to be commissioned. Following the site visit, the company INNOTECH gave the students an impressive demonstration of the possibilities offered by commissioning management.
Red Bull Immobiliengesellschaft mbH (the client) is constructing a forward-looking, sustainability-focused new building to house the office infrastructure for the local Leipzig professional football club.
The building is being constructed on a vacant plot in Leipzig Lindenau, in the immediate vicinity of the Bundesliga club’s existing training centre.
The timber frame construction, PV systems, rainwater and greywater utilisation, and a construction method that focuses on the circular economy and recycling are just some of the measures being prioritised in the construction of this modern building.

A modern, high-quality interior design that embodies the club’s DNA. An activity-based working concept ensures there is a suitable space for every type of work. Various forms of quiet spaces are available for calm and focused work. A wide range of meeting and conference rooms are available in various configurations and designs, offering different options for traditional meetings, creative sessions, stand-up meetings and more. In addition to traditional workstations, a wide range of workspaces are available, including throughout the building, on the roof terrace and in the outdoor area.
Service phases 1–9 of Innotech Leipzig GmbH cover the following systems: plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire-extinguishing systems and building automation.

30 June – 1 July 2025 | Wilo SE, Dortmund
From 30 June 2025 to 1 July 2025, students of Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering studying the Heating Technology module, accompanied by Prof. Guzek, visited Wilo SE in Dortmund. On Day 1, the programme included training sessions on drainage and pressure-boosting systems. This was followed by a tour of the BVB stadium. Day 2 began with a fascinating, extensive tour of the Wilo factory via a skywalk with VR/AR support, as well as a visit to the H2 power plant. This was followed by a pump sizing exercise using Wilo’s design software and app. A particular highlight was the talk by Olympic eight-oared rowing champion Richard Schmidt on the plant’s energy concept, his sporting and professional career during his studies, and his role at Wilo.

23 June 2025 | Building Services Engineering at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig
On 23 June 2025, students on the ‘Specialist Areas and Environmentally Friendly Building Services’ module examined the complex and extensive building services systems at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig, which is required to accommodate 45,000 spectators as well as a further 20,000 guests attending concerts where the pitch is used.
Since 2020, INNOTECH Leipzig GmbH has carried out extensive refurbishment, renovation and expansion work here.

15 May 2025 | Field trip to Bosch Buderus in Markranstädt
Bachelor’s students on Professor Guzek’s modules in Heating Technology and Environmentally Friendly Building Services visited Bosch Buderus in Markranstädt on 15 May 2025. There was plenty of hands-on experience. The students completely dismantled a heat pump, gaining an insight into its key components. The theoretical part covered sound pressure level requirements, installation dimensions and clearance distances, particularly for heat pumps using propane as a refrigerant. Connectivity and online tools, hydraulics and funding rounded off the programme.
A big thank you goes to the organisers, Mr Jan Trojan and Mr Axel Kostezka, as well as the speakers for their highly interesting presentations.
12 May 2025 | Field trip to Viessmann in Berlin
On 12 May 2025, students on the Master’s module ‘Specialist Areas of Building Services Engineering’, led by Prof. Guzek, visited Viessmann in Berlin. They were given a highly interesting tour of the production facilities and were able to view heat pump test benches. The visit was rounded off by a comprehensive programme covering the product portfolio, current regulatory framework and hydraulic connections.

20–21 January 2025 | Field trip to the VIEGA Seminar Centre in Großheringen
From 20–21 January 2025, Bachelor’s students on the Energy and Building Services Engineering course (Sanitary Engineering module) once again had the opportunity to experience drinking water hygiene first-hand. On the first day, topics relating to drinking water technology were covered in theory, followed by a practical session on pressing techniques. On the second day, there was an intensive course on the VIPTOOL design programme, followed by a tour of the factory. We would like to thank the seminar leader, Ms Ehrlich, Mr Ruben Bruske and Mr Kay Rothe for this fantastic event.

3 December 2024 | A first-hand look at pump manufacturer KSB
On 3 December 2024, Bachelor’s and Master’s students on the Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering degree programme had the opportunity to experience pump production, digital tools and test benches first-hand. It was a fantastic, entertaining day that also offered the chance to explore career opportunities in technical sales, product development or IT at one of the leading manufacturers of pumps and valves.

18 November 2024 | PGMM Leipzig University Day
Once again this year, students on the Master’s programme in Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering were able to gain valuable insights into day-to-day planning work as part of the ‘TGA in Practice’ module. A challenging programme was on the agenda during the visit to PGMM (PDF).

10–13 November 2024 | Field trip on drinking water hygiene to Winnenden and Pfullendorf
From 10–13 November 2024, EGB Bachelor’s students had the opportunity to learn about market trends in drinking water hygiene and water technology. The trip began in Winnenden at Judo, where participants were introduced to water treatment techniques and took a tour of the factory. Over the following days, the group travelled to Geberit’s training centre in Pfullendorf, where they were treated to a comprehensive programme covering the fundamentals of planning and construction in water technology, fire safety, live demonstrations of pipe-joining techniques, a demonstration of the wastewater tower and a tour of the production facilities. After a day of intense mental stimulation, the students enjoyed some physical activity in the evening with the ‘Flying Fox’ zip line and a subsequent quad bike tour in the quarry – all in the dark at 3°C and with plenty of adrenaline. Nobody backed out.

10 June 2024 | Bosch Buderus Markranstädt
On 10 June 2024, students on the Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering degree programme gained an insight into the world of heat generators as part of a field trip. The programme included hybrid heat generators in both small and large output ranges, heat pumps and their hydraulic integration, as well as connectivity via the company’s own connectPro app.

22–23 April 2024 | VIESSMANN, Allendorf (Eder)
From 22–23 April 2024, students undertook a field trip to Viessmann in Allendorf (Eder) as part of the Heating Technology module. Beginning with a guided tour of the production and storage areas for heat generators and an introduction to heating technology, the second day focused on basic training in hybrid and bivalent heat pump solutions.

15–16 January 2024 | VIEGA, Großheringen (Thuringia)
On 15 and 16 January 2024, students from the EGU Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes visited VIEGA in Großheringen. As well as gaining interesting insights into the manufacture of pipework fittings, they were able to examine the entire product range for smart installation applications in the exhibition. Specialised presentations on planning using a design programme, a practical session on ‘press connections’ and a theoretical session on drinking water hygiene rounded off the two-day excursion. Many thanks to Mr Bruske and his TEAM for making this seminar trip possible!
20 November 2023 | Pump manufacturer KSB, Halle an der Saale
On 20 November 2023, students from various modules in building energy technology visited the pump manufacturer KSB in Halle an der Saale. Following an impressive introductory presentation on the company’s product portfolio and a demonstration of design tools for pumps and valves used in building services engineering, the students were able to gain an insight into KSB’s production facilities and testing laboratory during a tour of the factory. 14 November 2023 | PGMM University Day, Leipzig
On 14 November 2023, students from the Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering degree programme were guests at the Planning Group M+M University Day in Leipzig. Uwe Stüber, authorised signatory and site manager, gave a lively and highly engaging presentation on day-to-day planning work at the practice, based on the cost groups defined in DIN 276.
13 November 2023 | Judo Wasseraufbereitung GmbH, Markkleeberg
On 13 November 2023, students on the Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering degree programme were given a tour of the training laboratory at Judo Wasseraufbereitung GmbH in Markkleeberg. Michael Albrecht from Judo gave the students from the Faculty of Engineering an impressive presentation on water treatment techniques, particularly for deionised water.
6 November 2023 | Bosch Junkers Chemnitz
On 6 November 2023, at Bosch Junkers’ brand-new training centre in Chemnitz, students on the Energy, Building and Environmental Engineering degree programme at the Faculty of Engineering were given an insight into new strategies for the energy transition. Speaker Lutz Lochau presented modern hybrid solutions for heating and cooling to the students in Prof. Guzek’s seminar group, which comply with the Building Energy Act.
