Joint research: In future, HTWK Leipzig will work together with York University through a DFG internationalisation measure
In the coming year, HTWK Leipzig will be further expanding its international research collaborations: It will be planning research activities together with York University in Toronto (Canada). Both research institutions will receive support from an approved internationalisation measure from the German Research Foundation (DFG). The corresponding funds were approved in March 2024.
Both York University and HTWK Leipzig have a strong research focus on sustainability. York University was named in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2023 as one of the world's leading universities in the field of sustainability (top 40 ranking). HTWK Leipzig also established its Vice-Rectorate for Research and Sustainability in 2023 in order to reflect its research priorities with regard to sustainability for the coming years.
In this context, research into composite materials plays an important role, as composite materials support the path to a climate-neutral future, as lightweight fibre composite construction contributes to reducing emissions while creating high-performance products. The service life of lightweight products can be extended by decades as composite materials are corrosion-resistant and durable.
In August 2024, Prof. Robert Böhm (Professor of Lightweight Construction with Composites) will therefore be travelling to Toronto. A return visit by Prof. Garrett Melenka is planned for autumn 2024.
