From 20 to 21 June 2026, Prof. Mirco Fuchs presented research projects such as the Digital Mirror at the interactive stand of the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp)
From 20 to 21 June 2026, the Federal Government’s Open Day took place at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. Over 80,000 visitors took the opportunity to find out more at the numerous stands.

At the interactive stand run by the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mirco Fuchs from the Faculty of Engineering at HTWK Leipzig, together with PhD student Julian Ziegler from the BISp, presented research projects funded by the institute. Among other things, guests were given an insight into AI-based video analysis in sporting applications (canoe racing, rowing, kitesurfing). The digital mirror for monitoring vital signs and a testing station featuring camera-based live motion analysis invited guests to give them a go.

Also visiting the stand were Thorsten Frei, Federal Minister for Special Tasks and Head of the Federal Chancellery, and Dr Babette Kibele, Head of the Department for Sport and Volunteering at the Federal Chancellery.
I was delighted that this year the BISp invited HTWK Leipzig to provide an insight into the now very diverse range of research work in the field of sports applications that has been and continues to be carried out here. We had many interesting discussions and were able to give visitors an insight not only into how important publicly funded technological development in sport is for enabling top performances, but also into how the solutions typically developed for elite sport can, in future, have a positive impact on society as a whole. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mirco Fuchs
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mirco Fuchs was appointed to the BISp’s Scientific Advisory Board this year and, together with his research group, the Laboratory for Biosignal Processing, focuses on new applications of image and video analysis in the fields of sport and health.
