May 2024 | Excursion to Rohde and Schwarz Munich
Under the direction of Prof Krondorf, students were invited to Rohde und Schwarz in Munich for the third time after 2014 and 2022. The excursion took place in May 2024 and was primarily aimed at ESS students, but was nevertheless open to all specialisations. After a long but fun train journey, we enjoyed a hearty meal in the Augustinerkeller. After a good night's sleep, it was easy to check into the hostel and another location rounded off the evening. On Wednesday, we had a tight programme at R&S, with interesting content and some new insights. From a technical perspective, the programme covered product development in communications engineering, measurement technology and high-frequency technology.
July 2022 | Field trip to Rohde and Schwarz Munich
Marco Krondorf, Jan Dossin and interested Bachelor's and Master's students from the Faculty of Engineering were invited to the Rohde & Schwarz headquarters in Munich at the beginning of July 2022.
The internationally active and independent German electronics group Rohde & Schwarz develops, manufactures and sells a wide range of electronic capital goods for industry, infrastructure operators and government customers. Business areas include mobile radio and high-frequency measurement technology, broadcast and media technology, air traffic control and military radio communication as well as cyber security and network technology.
The 14 EIT students, Prof Krondorf (Chair of Communications Engineering) and team member Jan Dossin set off for Munich on the afternoon of 3 July 2022 with the 9-euro ticket. On 4 July 2022, the excursion group arrived at the Rohde & Schwarz company premises at 9 a.m. on the dot. After a warm welcome, the company tour began with a presentation on the history and development of the company. The guests from Leipzig were then given an insight into the environmental laboratory, the show room, the amateur radio station and the Rohde & Schwarz Museum. The tour was followed by a presentation on the possibilities of drone defence for special civilian and military facilities such as airports, industrial plants and barracks. Unfortunately, the Leipzigers had to leave early due to the return journey and were unable to attend the last presentation on entry perspectives at Rohde & Schwarz.
"We gained interesting insights into the practical world of communications and high-frequency technology and were able to get to know each other better through the time we spent together," summarised Jan Dossin.
