The Saxon members of the DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) met in Leipzig on 30 September 2021 to find out about current developments and framework conditions for a climate transition.
The 10th meeting of the Saxon district groups of the DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. took place on 30 September 2021 at the HTWK Leipzig. This year's event focussed on climate change and the energy transition. Prof Robert Huhn and Prof Michael Kubessa from the Faculty of Engineering welcomed the Saxon DVGW members from the Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig district groups to the Nieper Building with presentations on current research, climate policy, the coal phase-out, green gas supply and drinking water resource protection, among other topics.
Host Prof Robert Huhn (Chair of Gas and Heating Networks, Faculty of ING) gave an insight into his research on the HYPOS project H2-Netz as well as other teaching and research activities at the Chair of Gas and Heating Networks. Among other things, he focussed on the combined consideration of gas and heating networks in the future climate-neutral heat supply and the control of dynamic effects in energy distribution networks. His vision is to "make students fit for the energy transition".
Tilman Schwencke, Head of Strategy and Policy at BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V., analysed the current federal election results and outlined the expectations of the upcoming government as well as the necessary changes and adjustments to the energy industry framework.
Dr Jana Bovet, Head of Energy and Climate Policy, Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture, presented the structures and areas of the state ministry and the current status of implementation of the Saxony Energy and Climate Programme (EKP 2021).
Matthias Krüger, Head of Quality Assurance, Fernwasserversorgung Elbaue Ostharz GmbH and Michael Weiß, Departmental Officer for Drinking Water Basics, SachsenEnergie AG/DREWAG Stadtwerke Dresden GmbH highlighted the challenges of drinking water protection in their presentations, especially during the recent dry summers. It also became very clear that the protection of drinking water resources, the use of chemicals in agriculture, the proper use of pharmaceuticals and the high-precision measurement of trace substances in watercourses represent a complex interlinked system and that the protection of the entire environment must be understood as a "drinking water protection zone".
